One of NAEMSP®’s strategic goals is to enhance EMS advocacy efforts. NAEMSP® is pleased to support the efforts of The New York Mobile Integrated Healthcare Association (NYMIHA) in conjunction with EMS stakeholders in your state who are working diligently to pass Community Paramedicine (CP) legislation to enable EMS to fully participate in integrated patient care.

As a result of their advocacy efforts, Community Paramedicine was among the top recommendations of the NYS Department of Health’s “Regulatory Modernization Initiative” and was included in Governor Cuomo’s 2018-2019 budget bill. A similar version of the bill is working its way through the NYS Senate. The legislative language is well balanced, allowing for flexibility in the creation of community paramedicine programs while ensuring collaboration, not duplication, with other healthcare stakeholder groups. Read the NYMIHA support letter here.

Your help is needed to push this initiative over the finish line and get Community Paramedicine approved in NYS. Let them know that the EMS community stands united in its support for Community Paramedicine and that this legislation will improve the care provided to the underserved, uninsured, the elderly and those living in remote areas.

Contact your representative today! You can find your state Assembly Member and Senator, and a template letter to send here. Please share this information with your agency or organization leadership and ask them to send a letter of support.

For questions about the legislation, please contact NAEMSP®’s MIH/Community Paramedicine Committee Chair, Dr. Kevin Munjal at kevin.munjal@nycommunityparamedicine.org.
