The awards dinner, which will honor Niagara County first responders, will be held on Wednesday, May 21, at the Cambria Fire Hall, hosted by Catholic Health and Mount St. Marys Hospital. CHS is asking that submitters consider calls their fire company/department completed this past year and nominate individuals who deserve recognition for their efforts.

Erie County is hosting a CIT (Crisis Intervention Team) Training for EMS Providers. This 8-hour course is recommended and open to all emergency medicine personnel in Erie County. Presented in partnership between Crisis Services Emergency Mental Health Department and Erie County Emergency Services and Homeland Security, Niagara Frontier Transit Authority Fire Department, and UBMD Emergency Medicine EMS Division.
Emergency medicine plays a crucial role in assessing, treating, and transporting individuals who may be experiencing a mental health crisis, as well as patient care throughout transport and transfer of custody to the hospital. Instruction will include how to recognize emotional and mental distress, ensuring safety, the role of CIT officers and Mobile Outreach teams and how EMS can effectively partner with each, communication and de-escalation techniques, trauma-informed care, suicide and lethality assessments, diversion and community resources, and mental hygiene law.

Position Overview: The Dispatcher is responsible for the intake, processing and dissemination of information. This includes the ability to question callers about their needs; determine the appropriate response needed for the situation; monitor status to determine what resources are available; and dispatch the appropriate personnel and/or equipment. The Dispatcher will keep accurate and legible records of the calls taken, in both written and electronic (computer) formats. The Dispatcher must be able to use maps (both printed and computer) to locate roadways, intersections and facilities as well as plot courses of travel. Familiarity of the Western New York region. In addition to using telephones, the Dispatcher uses 2-way radios, pagers, cellular phones, FAX machines and computer messages to communicate to internal and external customers, as well as the general public. Additionally, the Dispatcher functions as an administrative support personnel, assisting with a variety of office tasks, such as filing, message handling, mailings and data-entry.
Position Prerequisites:
• NYS EMT Certification – Basic or higher.
• CPR Certification.
• Two years experience in Emergency Services preferred, but not required.
• Previous Communications experience preferred, but not required.
