Erie County Crisis Intervention Training – Course Reminder

Erie County is hosting a CIT (Crisis Intervention Team) Training for EMS Providers. This 8-hour course is recommended and open to all emergency medicine personnel in Erie County. Presented in partnership between Crisis Services Emergency Mental Health Department and Erie County Emergency Services and Homeland Security, Niagara Frontier Transit Authority Fire Department, and UBMD Emergency Medicine EMS Division.

Emergency medicine plays a crucial role in assessing, treating, and transporting individuals who may be experiencing a mental health crisis, as well as patient care throughout transport and transfer of custody to the hospital. Instruction will include how to recognize emotional and mental distress, ensuring safety, the role of CIT officers and Mobile Outreach teams and how EMS can effectively partner with each, communication and de-escalation techniques, trauma-informed care, suicide and lethality assessments, diversion and community resources, and mental hygiene law.

Course Dates: Tuesday, February 18 or Saturday, February 22, 2025; 0800 – 1600
