2019 GBEMSC Presenter Profiles: Dr. Joe Bart and Dr. Brian Clemency

By Training

Dr. Joseph Bart and Dr. Brian Clemency round out the speaker profiles for the 2019 Greater Buffalo EMS Conference.  Both physicians have presented individually at previous Greater Buffalo EMS Conferences but they have never taken the stage together.  Folks, this could get interesting!

The Medical Director Face-Off will wrap up the 2019 Greater Buffalo EMS Conference.  Dr. Bart and Dr. Clemency will co-present on a variety of EMS topics that are of interest and relevant to EMS care delivery.  This spirited presentation will examine where we are today given previous changes and what we might expect in the future.  One thing we know for sure, it will be filled with humor!

The GBEMSC is only 6 days away!  Register today: www.buffaloemsconference.com

We hope you have enjoyed learning more about our conference presenters over the past couple days.  Today, we feature Dr. Brian Walters and Attorney Kevin Mahoney who is also an EMT.

Dr. Brian Walters will be presenting a 2-part case study on Damage Control Extrication.  Dr. Walters began his medical career as a volunteer EMT, and later worked as an EMT-Intermediate for Twin City Ambulance.  He graduated from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and then completed an Emergency Medicine residency at the University of Buffalo.  Dr. Walters is past-Chairman of the WREMAC and teaches Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) for the National Center for Security and Preparedness, and the NY State Preparedness Training Center.

We always hear from providers who have questions regarding the legal aspects of EMS.  We are incredibly privileged to work with Kevin Mahoney who is an attorney with HoganWillig.  What sweetens this deal for all of us is that Kevin is one of us!  Who better to learn from than someone who is an expert and works in the trench right next to you.  Kevin will be presenting Deciphering the Alphabet Soup of Legal Documents: DNR, MOLST, HCP, and POA.  Bring your experiences and questions for Kevin!

What’s so great about the Greater Buffalo EMS Conference?  We offer very diverse topics from experts, both near and far.  Today’s featured presenters are experts who live right here in the City of Good Neighbors!

Dr. Jeffrey Thompson is an emergency physician who is very passionate about stroke education.  Dr. Thompson is a graduate of the UB Emergency Residency Program and continues to work at BGMC/GVI and ECMC.  He will be presenting: Before the Door: Prehospital Stroke and Neurology

We can guarantee our next presenter, Dr. Kevin Majka, will share information that you won’t find at any other EMS conference.  So does that mean it’s not relevant?  Au contraire!  How many times have we said (or heard) – “EMS is always the last to know about what is going on!”?  Let it be no more!  Kevin Majka, PhD is Senior Scientist for the Calspan-UB Research Center (CUBRC) and will present: Beyond EMS: Public Safety and Transportation Research  Come learn how research is reshaping public safety and the transportation industry!
