We wanted to share a message that has been delivered by our partners to the south of us in the Southern Tier region. We realize this remains as an issue, so we wanted to remind everyone how they can report this. Please, we encourage you to use these pathways for reporting so we can continue to see the problem and where it exists. If we don’t know that it is broken, we cannot work to fix it.
We recognize that extended hospital wait times continue to be a challenge for EMS agencies in our region. To better document and address these delays, we strongly encourage providers to take the following steps when encountering excessive wait times:
- Complete the NYS Wait Time Survey – When an extended delay occurs, please report it using the EMS Agencies to Report Long Wait Times at Hospitals portal.
- Document Offload Time Accurately – Ensure that the offload time is correctly recorded in your PCR to provide a clear record of patient handoff delays.
- Report Egregious Delays – For particularly severe wait times, in addition to completing the wait time survey, agencies should consider filing a formal hospital complaint using the Complaints About New York State Hospitals form.
By consistently reporting these incidents, we can help advocate for system-wide improvements and better patient care. Thank you for your continued dedication to serving our communities.
