FTO Survey Request From State EMS

Please see the request below from the NYS DOH Division of State EMS regarding an FTO Survey.  Please take the time to complete the survey!

Greetings,
We invite your agency and all EMS providers to participate in a short statewide survey focused on understanding the use of Field Training Officer (FTO) Programs within EMS across New York State. This effort is one step toward better comprehension what EMS providers need to thrive and promoting the long-term advancement of the EMS workforce.
The valuable data gathered from the EMS Agency FTO Survey  and the EMS Provider FTO Survey will help us gain an understanding of:
  • How EMS agencies utilize FTO programs, including their structure, goals, and integration into clinical onboarding and training.
  • The number of EMS agencies actively using FTO programs across the state.
  • If FTO roles have promotional or salary implications for preceptors.
  • The impact of FTO programs on recruitment and retention of EMTs and paramedics.
  • The educational components built into FTO programs and how they support clinical development and field readiness.
This data will give us the opportunity to collect and share best practices across the state to strengthen EMS training and performance. This information will also give us the data required to empower agencies.
Your input will help create a clearer picture of how FTO programs are shaping EMS across the state and will advise future strategies for supporting field providers, preceptors, and training officers.
This survey will close October 17, 2025.
