Available Pre-Paid Slots for First Responder Disability Awareness Online Training – LIMITED TO WRHEPC First Responders

The Finger Lakes Regional Training Center has made arrangements with the Niagara University to offer a limited amount of prepaid registrations for the First Responder Disability Awareness ONLINE Training.

This course will be at no charge to eligible First Responder Registrants in the Western Region HEPCRequest a slot HERE

Program Description:
Niagara University’s First Responder Disability Awareness Training is the nation’s only comprehensive training for emergency medical services, firefighters, police officers, and 9-1-1 telecommunicators.

This EMS online training was adapted from the national Train the Trainer program into a compatible, self paced, easy to use 6-hour program.

Customized exclusively for EMS in front of a live studio audience, the training addresses the basic elements EMS need to know to ensure a proper, appropriate and proactive response when interacting and addressing the needs of individuals with disabilities.

Program Goal: to educate and sensitize emergency medical services (EMS) on equality and disability issues within the diversity spectrum and how to properly and appropriately respond to individuals with disabilities (IWDs), customized for EMS specific to individuals with disabilities. Training would include, but not be limited to, disabilities defined specific to first response, etiquette and interaction skills to include Person First Language, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Content includes, but not be limited to:
· Disabilities Awareness specific to EMS
· Disabilities defined specific to EMS
· Understanding how individuals with disabilities are marginalized and discriminated against and how quality of life is affected when proper response is not appropriate and adequate
· The ADA relative to EMS/first response
· Modes of communication to include American Sign Language
· Service Animals and ambulance transport
· Etiquette/Interaction Skills
· Victimization and Abuse

This course is a valid Non-Core, CME course in the NYSDOH BEMS CME Recertification program and has been approved for six (6) Non-Core credit hours.

Further instructions will be emailed to you within 2-3 weeks of your submission. Your slot will not be held until you complete registration on the Niagara University website. If you receive a pre-paid slot you must commit to complete the training within ONE MONTH of enrolling in the course.

ECMC Diversion

Greetings Everyone,

I have been informed recently that ECMC is dealing with a water issue at the hospital currently. After having a conversation with the State DOH BEMS, I am being advised that until further notice, ECMC will be on diversion for all patients with the EXCEPTION of Trauma patients and Psychiatric patients. If the patient does not meet that criteria please take them to another facility. As always, if you are unsure if your patient meets the criteria, contact the ECMC Trauma line. Thanks

At 16:00 on Thursday, January 13, 2022, the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and Trauma Systems is hosting an EMS Agency Leadership and EMS Provider Briefing to discuss topics submitted by EMS Agency Leaders and EMS Providers (see registration link below).  We encourage all participants to sign into the meeting no later than 10 minutes in advance of the meeting
