We are currently seeking submissions for lectures, workshops, keynotes, and full-day/multiple-day courses for the North Country EMS 22nd Annual Spring Fling Conference, which will be held at the Edgewood Resort and Conference Center in Alexandria Bay, NY.
We are looking for submissions for the following:
- April 27th and 28th: full-day, half-day, and evening pre-conference programs/courses/workshops
- April 29th: Full-day ALS track and BLS track with 60- to 90-minute lectures
All topics and formats related to clinical, EMS operations, EMS leadership, and education will be considered. The deadline for submission is COB on October 31st, 2022.
Submissions will be accepted by completing this survey
We take pride in giving our presenters a great experience. We pay honorariums and provide travel/lodging. All presenters are welcome at conference events, meals, etc. Please be sure to include honorarium expectations.

Please see the attached message from the Bureau regarding tomorrows EMS Memorial Ceremony:
The Bureau has decided to move the EMS Memorial to an inside location tomorrow due to the impending weather. The EMS Memorial will take place in the Swyer Theatre in the Egg. The time will still be the same and we will begin at 11 am.
If you know of an agency bringing a vehicle, they can still park on the plaza level.

Updated to reflect the AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC, PEARS® helps healthcare providers develop the knowledge and skills needed for emergency evaluation and treatment of seriously ill infants and children.
PEARS teaches providers how to recognize common pediatric emergencies such as: respiratory compromise, shock and cardiac arrest, and provide appropriate lifesaving interventions within the initial minutes of response until the child is transferred to an advanced life support provider. The goal of PEARS is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured infants and children, resulting in improved outcomes.
• Improves competency in pediatric basic life support
• Learning stations and practice reinforce essential skills
• Course video allows students actually see and hear critically ill children
• Enhances skills in recognizing shock, respiratory failure and cardiopulmonary emergencies
COURSE CONTENT:
• Pediatric assessment
• Assessment and management of respiratory problems
• Recognition and management of shock
• Identification and management of cardiac arrest
• Resuscitation team concept
Because typical PEARS students do not regularly treat critically ill children, the course includes video-based simulation so they can actually see and hear critically ill children.
Target Audience: PEARS is for healthcare providers such as medical and surgical nurses, school nurses, emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and any other healthcare provider who infrequently sees critically ill infants and children but might encounter pediatric patients. This course is not intended for those credentialed for advanced pediatric skills that routinely provide pediatric care.

Beginning today, the DOH Surge Operations Center (SOC) will no longer be sending email notifications for hospital diversions. Real-time hospital emergency department statuses can be viewed at the NYDiverts webpage linked below. (Already linked on UBMDEMS.com)
New York Emergency Department Status (juvare.com)
The ED Status column is based on the following definitions:
Normal: Accepting all EMS traffic.
Advisory: Experiencing specific resource limitations which may affect transport of some EMS traffic. EMS agencies are directed to transport patients requiring these services to an alternate hospital for the duration of the advisory period.
On Divert: Requesting re-route of EMS traffic. A diversion does not mean the hospital is closed; but that the current patient load exceeds the hospital’s ability to safely treat additional patients.
Closed: Emergency Department is temporarily closed to all patients due to an internal emergency or condition requiring closure of the Emergency Department.
–: Facilities that are not currently reporting ED status or do not have ED services.
The reason and comments columns may contain additional information related to the current ED status.
Please note, a status of “On Divert” will automatically revert to “Normal” after four (4) hours if the diversion is not extended by the hospital. When this occurs, “Auto Opened” will also appear in the comments column.
We are also happy to announce the following enhancements to the NYDiverts webpage that were rolled out on August 30, 2022:
1. Users have the option to apply more than 1 filter at a time.
2. There is a new ‘smart search’ feature whereas users type into the search bar and any data that matches the criteria will appear. (i.e. “Divert Onon” would bring back records that are have a Status Type of “Divert” and County of “Onondaga”).
3. Smart scrolling, users will no longer need to click through pages but instead will be able to continually scroll down the page to review data
