CME Opportunity: Stress and Resilience in the First Responder

Stress and Resilience in the First Responder

On-line presentation by Tom Luka, M.S., EMT-P

Emergency services is a unique and rewarding profession, but it can burn you out if you let it. As first responders, we can be exposed to more intense stressful situations in one week than the general public will experience in a lifetime. Up to now, the emphasis has been on critical incident stress interventions after the fact. They are valuable, and should be used when necessary. We also need to develop psychological resiliency before the fact, to lessen the impact of critical incident stress, and bounce back after those difficult calls, and life in general.

Please register at www.Mercyflight.org, CME courses.

Course link will be included in the confirmation email

Suicide Prevention for Healthcare Workers

By Uncategorized

Healthcare workers have always had increased risk for suicide, but with the additional concerns raised by dealing frontline with the pandemic, these concerns are heightened. Medical professionals often have elevated levels of depression during normal times, but are often reluctant to seek professional mental health help due to lack of time and fear of stigma. Learn how you can help each other out by knowing the Risk Factors, Warning Signs, Prevention Tools and how to reach out to a colleague in need.
Talks Saves Lives: for Physicians, Nurses, EMTs, Respiratory Therapists and other medical professionals in the frontline of responding to the Covid-19 Pandemic. This is a one-hour program that will be offered via Zoom to groups up to 25 registrants.

To request and schedule the program, contact Celia Spacone, Ph.D. with the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Erie County cspacone@crisisservices.org.

Vital Signs Academy: Request for Presenters

By Uncategorized

The NYS Bureau of EMS and Trauma Systems is developing and enhancing content for its learning management system, Vital Signs Academy.  At this time, the Bureau seeks presenters who would be interested in developing and submitting content to be offered on their LMS.

Instructors who are interested in submitting content should do so as follows:

  1. Submit a presentation of your choice, which would consist of an hour-long session for an on-line presentation. The session would be 45 – 50 minutes in length with a 10 – 15-minute time frame at the end of the session for question and answers.
  2. Submit a 10-question quiz.
  3. Please note, the hour-long presentation will be converted into three (3) 15-minute sessions to create the online content.

The Bureau will review the submitted materials and, if selected, will contact the instructor to schedule the live webinar presentation.

All submissions and questions should be directed to Jennifer Buonanno at Jennifer.buonanno@health.ny.gov.
